Holy asinine assumptions, Batman. If I see one more post about how DC and Gail Simone have had a year to talk about Barbara Gordon’s recovery and haven’t, or one about how issue zero proved that no one involved cares about Barbara’s disability because it inadvertently had a solicit intended for a later issue attached, I will start throwing things.
How in the holy hell has Barbara’s disability been ignored? The first eight issues of the series constantly dealt with her survivor’s guilt and PTSD as a result of her attack and healing. We learned how she was cured, even if we don’t know the specifics. True, we don’t know if she was still Oracle in this timeline yet, but not knowing that hardly means that her disability has been completely neglected. It has been a major part of her story arcs since the very first issue.
As for Gail Simone not caring, she only persuaded DC to keep Barbara’s paralysis in canon, when it otherwise would have been completely erased from existence. She only took The Killing Joke, a story that made Barbara and her horrific assault a footnote, and shaped it into Barbara’s story too, instead of just a fridging that was thrust upon her. So please forgive me if I’m not going to grab a pitchfork and torch because she didn’t give the full back story in the first twelve issues while having to deal with tie-ins, editorial mandates, and establishing the character’s current place in the new timeline.
And by the way, that solicit everyone’s so angry about? That’s for a story arc happening once Death of the Family ends. It was attached to the zero issue by mistake. It is coming. So don’t tell me it’s been ignored entirely or that Gail Simone doesn’t care just because it didn’t get here fast enough for your liking.
